    Background

    The Picote Team were out again on another apartment rehabilitating the internal pipe networks of this apartment building. With five storeys and a basement, home to 25 residential units, this is no small challenge. 

    The Process

    It is common in Finland to rehabilitate internal pipes inside buildings, from single occupancy dwellings to multi-storey residential apartment blocks and large commercial buildings. Rehabilitation involves cleaning the internal pipes and lining them with CIPP lining techniques. This is a trenchless method to create a new, seamless pipe within the old one. It involves inserting (or inverting) a resin-saturated felt or fibreglass liner (like a long sock), inflating it against the pipe walls using pressurised air, and curing it with hot water, steam, UV light or just with time (ambient cure). This cures to form a strong new pipe within a pipe and, if done properly, with excellent new flow-rate properties. Once a pipe is fully lined, the connecting pipes entering it (laterals) need to be opened up by cutting to be reconnected so that flow can be restored.  This project was typical of such work carried out by Picote Oy on a daily basis across Finland.

    A New Solution from Picote

    Rehabilitation of stacks, branch lines & the main pipes were performed with CIPP lining.​
    The Multi-Cutter was used to reinstate sink drains and lateral connections located in the basement restroom that connect to the main. Because of the multiple diameter changes & bends, reinstatement via the lateral would have been extremely challenging. ​The Mini Multi-Cutter saved time and made the whole process easier.

    • Mainline started as DN50 (2”),diameter increased up to DN150 (6”)
    • Liner needed to be installed from DN100 (4”) lateral through fivedifferent 45° bends.​
    • 3D liners: DN50-70 (2-3”), DN70-100 (3-4”) & DN100-150 (4-6”).​

    The "mainline" was reinstated from a DN100 (4”) lateral access towards the DN50 (2”) direction. The Mini Multi-Cutter was operated through those five 45° bends in DN100 (4”) pipe.​

    Without the Multi-Cutter, this job would have taken much longer to reinstate the connections. The Mini Multi-Cutter was able to save time & guarantee a safe process without worry of damaging the original host pipe.
