Background
The works took place between the 2nd - 25th June 2025 at the premises of B&W Group in Worthing. The issues being experienced by the client were related to ground movement leading to joint displacement and fractures within the pipes. The pipe material was clay, with 96m in total- all lateral in 4” pipework. The team decided to coat the pipe due to the access restrictions and number of blind laterals coming into the runs.
Preparation
The process began with descaling all of the lines using Picote 4” (DN100) Cyclone Chains until they were clear. They then proceeded to sand the lines with the Picote Smart Cutter™ so that the resin would have a good surface to adhere to.
The team started the cleaning process with the Maxi Miller. Aware that they had to close off some facilities on the property to gain access to the pipework, the efficiency of the Maxi enabled the cleaning process to be done quickly so the coating could be applied as soon as possible.
The cleaning process is an essential part of any pipe coating or lining project. Scale, grease and other debris must be removed to ensure a high quality finish.
The Picote Solution
Once the pipework was fully prepared and up to the team's high standards, they used the Picote Xpress Coating System 2.0 to coat the inside of the pipe. The pump delivered the resin into the pipe in two parts and then brushes rotated using the same Maxi Miller to mix the resin components and drive them deep into all cracks and dimples.
All of this work was completed outdoors so the new heated hoses and heated tanks on the Xpress Pump helped to maintain the optimal temperature of resin as it was applied inside of the pipes.

The team decided to switch over to their Mini Miller for coating the inspection chambers because these were very tight to work from. They found that it was a lot more comfortable to use the 8mm cable when coating through these particular chambers.
Challenges
The team encountered water in the pipes and heavily displaced joints. To overcome these defects they decided to install patch liners so they could guarantee the joints would be sealed once coated. To overcome the water problem they discovered that it was linked to where the air conditioning drains off into the foul lines. They rerouted the pipework so it would not affect the application and curing time. To remove any holding water in the line the team employed a wet vacuum and extended the hose to remove the water. They then proceeded to brush any excess out of the drain and used the Picote Heater to dry the interior of the pipe ready for coating.

"We found a lot of benefits using the new Xpress system, including a much quicker curing time. We loved being able to manage the temperature of the resin!" -Ben Caiels & Rian Maguire
The Result
All of the pipework is now sealed and structurally stable. The client was very happy with the timeframe as this job was completed ahead of schedule.
This system also managed to save on cost, due to the reusable heated hose - there was minimal wasted resin.
"We have been very satisfied with the equipment; we believe that it is a higher-end product and very suitable for our line of work." -Ben Caiels & Rian Maguire
